Weddings in the sun are good for health and pocket
Marrying in Southern Spain offers a change of scene and a significant cost reduction. It can be a lot less stressful because the couple will (normally) hire a wedding planner, something they wouldn’t think to do at home. And many attending the wedding, having received enough notice, will make a holiday out of the happy event and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

Car hire at Malaga airport
What’s going on here? So many added-on fees at carhire desks, that quotations given on the internet become far more than the quoted fee. You are asked to take out insurance against burst tyres, shattered windscreens and against the guy who backs into you in the carpark - one car firm told me that if I didn’t take this insurance out with them they would charge me 400 euro for any of these accidents! Another very annoying ploy is that having been charged for a full tank of fuel - and this can be 70 euro for a car that clearly doesn’t take more than 50 euro - you are told you will be refunded if you leave back your car with fuel in it, but this doesn’t happen. I have followed this up with emails, all of which have been ignored.
A Spanish lady told me that there is a complaints book in every business which anyone can ask for, for the purpose of registering a complaint. If a visitor to Spain feels s/he is being taken advantage of, we are entitled to cite our complaint. If it is said by that business that there is no such book, we are within our rights to call the ‘policia’ .

St Patrick’s Day
Tomorrow, 17th March, is Paddy’s Day and here on the Costa del Sol there are special dinners and parties being held all along the Coast in celebration of this very Irish event. The funny thing is that it is all our English friends who keep inviting us to one such party or another. The search is on for something suitably green to wear, something we do to promote our Irishness outside of Ireland!
Happy Paddy’s Day to one & all! Agus go n’eirigh an bothar libh!
